I honestly believe Church Hill Downs is one of the most romantic places on earth. When I first went there about 10 years ago I thought I was stepping onto a piece of heaven. When I was little, I'm sure it was more about the horses and now that is coupled with my penchant for gambling. But, I still love me some Derby Day! I should be there hanging with the Queen.

Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water together for five minutes. Cool and place in a covered container with six or eight sprigs of fresh mint, then refrigerate overnight. Make one julep at a time by filling a julep cup with crushed ice, adding one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of Kentucky Whisky. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup.
